Nadine Louise Best
January 22nd, 1926 - October 27th, 2014
Nadine Louise Clymer Granny Best, long-time resident of Fort Sumner, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 88. Nadine was born on January 22, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Wesley William Clymer and Frances Louise Clymer. She grew up in central Oklahoma and near McAlister, New Mexico. In 1943, she graduated from House High School and she married the love of her life, Albert Frank Best, and from that union they had three children; Troy, Shirley, and Floyd. Over the years, they lived in several communities throughout eastern New Mexico living on ranches such as the S.E.A. Cattle Company, Buster Fryer Ranch, and others. In 1961, the family moved to Clayton, New Mexico, where she was a homemaker for many years and then worked outside the home for Safeway until she retired in about 1979. After 18 years in Clayton, Frank and Nadine moved to Fort Sumner in 1979 where she worked for the United States Census Bureau, Bowlin's Old Fort Museum, and Cook's Chevron. She was a member of the Fort Sumner women's club where many friendships were formed. Nadine's pride and joy was her family. She loved unconditionally, raising her own children, then two grandchildren, and then a great granddaughter. Nadine cared after her son Floyd for 15 years after he had a severe and disabling accident. Nadine is preceded in death by Frank, her husband of 70 years, her parents and siblings, and daughter, Shirley. She is survived by sons Troy Best and Floyd Best, grandchildren Kelly Medford and wife Jill, Lisa Eddings and husband Robert, Bryan Best, Frank H. Best and wife Vickie, and Bill Crabtree, great-grandchildren Kayla Morton, Kellby Medford, Korie Gibson and husband Shon, Jacqueline Best, Kasi McDaniel and Brad Taylor, and great-great grandson Jeof Morton. The family extends a special thank you for the love and care Nadine received at Friendship Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Albuquerque. A private memorial will be held. Condolences may be sent to the Best family c/o Troy Best, P.O. Box 391, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo NE, (505) 764-9663.
