Dorothy Mae McCormick

Dorothy Mae McCormick, 88, passed away January 8, 2017 in Canby, Oregon. Dorothy was born in Canby, Oregon May 10, 1928 at the family farm on Township Rd., the 2nd daughter of Isadore and Stella (Sandsness) Bany. She graduated from Canby Union High School with the class of 1946. After graduation she worked for P.G.E in Portland in the Customer Service Dept. and in 1949 she began working for Butteville Insurance Co, in Woodburn, Oregon until her marriage to Patrick McCormick in June of 1953. They made their first home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Patrick died in 2005. In 1958 she and her husband moved back to Canby and began farming. Dorothy continued the farming operation in partnership with her son and daughter in law, after Pat's death. In 1978 Dorothy was hired as Manager of the Canby Loaves and Fishes nutrition program and in 1985 she continued as Director of the Canby Adult Center, retiring in 1993. Dorothy is survived by her sister Evelyn of Canby; and Lester Peter of Canby: sons, Paul (Kendra) of Wilsonville, and Steve (Suzzanne) of Canby; daughter, Suzanne Peterson; grandchildren, Nichole (Michael) Kruger, Danielle Peterson and Patrick and Adam McCormick and 3 great-grandchildren Ryan, Jackson and Hattie Kruger, all of Canby. A Memorial Service is scheduled January 28, 2017 at 11am at Zoar Lutheran Church, S. 3rd Street, Canby, Oregon. Memorials may be made to the Zoar Building Fund, Canby Adult Center or charity of your choice.
