Lucy Lucille McMullin
December 7, 1931 – May 7, 2024
Lucy Lucille “Lu” McMullin, age 92, passed away peacefully May 7, 2024 at Springfield, Oregon. Lu was born in Billings, Montana, on December 7, 1931. She was one of four siblings born to Clinton D. and Laura Archer McMullin, and her siblings included Mina “Sally” Madeline McMullin, Mollie May McMullin, and William “Bill” James McMullin. Lu valued education, graduating from Billings High School in 1949, earning a certificate in accounting from Draughon Training Institute in 1989, and participating in the one-year Pathway Worldwide program through Brigham Young University when she was in her 80s. Lu worked as a camp cook, ranch hand, bowling pin setter, and telephone operator in her youth and later worked for employers as diverse as Fairbanks (Alaska) Municipal Utilities System, the Veterans Administration, and Walmart.
Lu was known for her fierce determination and unflagging sense of adventure. She started fly fishing and “tromping” riverbanks when she was just eight years old, and she enjoyed her last guided fishing trip in October 2023. Lu moved to Alaska in 1963 and accumulated a wealth of pioneer experiences and larger-than-life stories, which she loved to share. Aside from fishing, Lu enjoyed arts and crafts and oil painting. Her children and grandchildren alike enjoyed her hand painted pictures and annual Christmas packages that included peanut brittle and goodies, handmade Christmas decorations, and hand painted cards. Lu loved “critters” of all kinds and enjoyed watching birds from her window.
Lu was preceded in death by her husbands, David Henry Kidd, Jr., of Billings, Montana, and Cecil Leon Price of Pope County, Arkansas; older sister, Sally Jordan, of Billings, Montana; her younger brother, Bill McMullin, of Billings, Montana; her son, David Rodney Kidd, of Carson City, Nevada; her son-in-law, Ross Noble, of Springfield, Oregon; and her grandson, Alan Noble, of Walla Walla, Washington. Lu is survived by her sister, Mollie Brown, of Great Falls, Montana; daughters, Penny Good Schikora and her spouse, Monty, of Margaritas, Jalisco, Mexico; Janet Kidd Carter and her spouse, Donald, of Odessa, Texas, and Clarissa Kidd Noble of Springfield, Oregon; and grandchildren Lesley Schikora Rognlie, Loni Anderson, Melanie Kidd, Vicky Wessel Houdek, Bradley R. Carter, Paul D. Carter, Carol Wessel Bryant, R. Leon Noble, Marci Noble Ellison, and Douglas Noble. Additionally, Lu is survived many beautiful great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. “Gma” will be sorely missed.
