Janet Helen Graham passed away peacefully April 30, 2024, at age 89 in her home in Littleton, Colorado, surrounded by her children, her beloved caregiver, and her sweet cat, Miss Kitty. Janet was born to John and Virginia McBride on April 11, 1935, in Manzanola, Colorado, where she grew up and graduated from Manzanola High School in 1953.
In 1955, Janet married James Allan Graham, Sr. of Fowler, Colorado, who preceded her in death in 2016. After moving to Monte Vista, Colorado, in 1956, Janet devoted herself to supporting her husband’s business as a bookkeeper, and to raising her three children, Jacque, Tricia and James Allan, Jr. She was a leader in her children’s Girl Scout, Boy Scout and 4-H activities, and as they grew, Janet became an active supporter of their high school activities, sports and clubs. She was a member of the Monte Vista United Methodist Church and led Sunday School classes and Bible School when her children were young.
After 2007, Janet enjoyed a full retirement life in Fowler, Colorado, with her husband Jim, devoting herself to her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they visited. She became an “honorary” grandmother to neighborhood children, treating them as if they were her own. Her dachshund Sam, as well as the neighbor’s dog and even a few stray cats, became mainstays during her life in Fowler. Janet and Jim regularly attended Fowler High School sporting events, and both were honored to serve as Missouri Day Parade Marshalls in 2015.
Janet joined the Fowler United Methodist Church, participating in church charity functions and singing in the choir. She continued her commitment to the church once she moved to Littleton, Colorado, in 2019 attending zoom services and traveling to Fowler for occasional visits.
Janet is survived by her three children: Jacque Graham (and son-in-law Larry Fitzmaurice); Tricia Gilbert; and James Allan Graham, Jr. (and daughter-in-law Gisela Graham), all of Denver. She is also survived by her grandchildren Todd Gilbert, and Tanya McSwain (and husband Rob); her greatgrandchildren Alex Lewis, Colton McSwain, Mason Winterboer, and Luke Winterboer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Janet is also survived by her sister, Iris McBride, of Florence, Colorado.
