Ano Smith

Ano Smith, 87, of Seminole, FL passed away October 11, 2023. Ano was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she lived for most of her life, but she also loved to travel and lived in other states such as New Jersey, Georgia, California, and finally Florida. Ano loved the beach, and lived in Madeira Beach in the 1980s, returned to Indianapolis later in the 1980s to be near her aging parents, then returned to settle in Seminole, FL in the early 1990s, where she would live for the rest of her life. Ano was raised Catholic and was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church as early as 1944, attended Christ the King School in 1949, St. Joseph’s Church in Lebanon in the 1960s and St. Matthew’s Church in Indianapolis in the 1970’s-90’s. Many people might not have known that at the early age of fourteen, in 1950, Ano skated publicly in the Times Ice-O-Rama at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum. She came close to ballet ice skating semi-pro until she had an accident with a male partner that had dropped her while doing a routine and skated over her. Also, in the 1950s is when she married, and not only became a mom but was Chairman of the Boone County March of Dimes “Marching Mothers” and was responsible for organizing many fundraising events. She was also the President of the “Boogie Kats Club” in Lebanon, Indiana in 1958, and a strong leader of the Boone County “Jayshees” from 1958 to 1961, where she was a candidate for Mrs. Boone County. She was Runner-Up. Ano was a certified “Master Beauty Culturist” in the State of Indiana and was a Hairdresser mostly through the 1970s. She had a salon she worked at 52nd and College with repeat customers through the years. In her most recent work, through the 1980s and 90s, Ano ran a Corndog Stand. This work coincided with her love for travel, because the corndog stand allowed her to venture to different towns where events were going on, where otherwise she would have never traveled. Such as the Atlanta Motor Speedway, or the Muncie Drag Strip. Ano loved the beach, laying in the sun, listening to music, family, her dogs, happy people, Tweety Bird, Ladybugs and hugs. She lived a life of thrill and adventure, one that many would envy. Her door was always open, as was her heart. She was kind, had a wonderful sense of humor, and she was full of love. I love you more. Yappydoodle! Ano is preceded in death by her first husband Gene Smith, she later remarried and was widowed by her second husband Charles "Bud" Russell, parents William Joseph and Dorothy Lemussa Schwert, and her two grandchildren. Ano is survived by her children Debbie Smith, Ron Smith, Larry Smith, Randy Smith, Buzz (Paula) Smith, Sister Jean Marie (Joe) Rau, and dozens of grandchildren of many generations.
