Elaine Janet Bardsley
April 8th, 1928 - October 5th, 2023
Elaine Janet Binder Bindrim Bardsley, 95, of Madeira Beach, Florida and previously Hartsville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on October 5, 2023. Elaine was born in Philadelphia and raised in Hartsville, Bucks County. She graduated from Hatboro High School and attended Penn State University and Temple University. She earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bucks County Community College and a BS in Special Education from Gwynedd College, summa cum laude. Elaine was a passionate traveler. Piloting her own plane and her own sailboat she traveled all fifty states, the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda. Her extensive foreign travels included Europe, northern Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Central America, including a climb up Machu Picchu. A specific focus for her was visiting sites related to the history of Native American Indians. Elaine worked as a volunteer in many capacities, including Chairperson of the combined Women's Auxiliaries of St. Christoper’s Hospital for Children and Warminster General Hospital in Bucks County; Director of the Pre-School Programs for the Bucks County Association for Retarded Citizens; and Director for 15 years of Resident Services for ACTS, Adult Life Care Retirement Communities. In Florida Elaine followed her interest in writing with memberships in PINAWOR, a local writers’ club and the Pinellas Novelists Critique Club. Two ancestors who served in the Continental Army qualified Elaine for Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Because of her maternal ancestors born in Scotland she was also proud to be a member of the Clan Donnachaidh Society of Florida. Elaine was predeceased by her first husband, Lt. William F. Bindrim, Jr., her second husband, Doctor James Ives Bardsley, her children: Tacy Ann, Scott Alan, Kimberly Read Bindrim Dilley Lawarence Avona, and by her granddaughter, Jamie Read Dilley. She is survived by her son Mark William Bindrim of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, and by several grandchildren: Brie Allison Lawrence of Portland Maine, Colin William Lawrence of Orono, Maine, Kira Lee Bindrim, New York City, and Jessica Ann Bindrim of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. She will be remembered with a Mercer Tile located next to one of her favorite authors, James Michener, in the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA.
