Nancy Miller
August 31st, 1932 - March 8th, 2018
Miller, Nancy, 85, of Largo, died peacefully in her sleep March 8, 2018. The youngest daughter of James Bonner and Mary (Beddard) Smith, Nancy grew up in Greenville, NC. After high school, she attended Peace College in Raleigh, NC, before venturing to Washington, DC, to join the work force. The switchboard operator at Nancy's boarding house played matchmaker, bringing together the gentle southern lady who lived on the third floor and the intellectual Yankee from Pennsylvania who lived on the first floor. After a 10-month engagement, Nancy and Walter C. Miller were married. Nancy and Wally started a family and moved from the city to Northern Virginia. She proudly supported Wally's career in his work as an attorney, then as an administrative law judge with the Federal Communications Commission. Nancy and Wally discovered their church heart at Central United Methodist Church in Arlington, VA. The message that Sunday, "When I met the Holy Spirit face to face," convinced them they were home. "I fell in love with God, and that has made all the difference." she said. When Wally retired in 1996, they moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement years. They found a welcoming Christian family at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Nancy and Wally were days away from celebrating 53 years of marriage when Wally died in 2008. Nancy stayed active in church and community activities. She helped found the United Methodist Women's Grace Circle at Aldersgate, faithfully attended Bible study, worked on several church committees, and volunteered with Hospice. She supported mission work and New Life Solutions; both causes dear to her heart. She was a mighty prayer warrior. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Mary Rachel Winslow and Jane Spann; and her brother, J.B. Smith. Surviving her are son, Steven; daughters, Sue (Jim) Munday, Margaret (Wayne) Vetter, and Rachel (Brian) McGuire; granddaughter, Tayllor (Sharif) Aziz; and grandson, Spencer Vetter. A service celebrating Nancy's life will be held Sunday, March 18, 4 pm, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 9530 Starkey Road, Seminole, FL 33777.
