THE BOOK OF LIFE OF OUR LOVED ONE -- John William Curtis, Jr. A TIME TO BE BORN What a wonderful day it was, November 14, 1935, in Omaha, NE, when John W. Curtis, Jr. was born to the late Mattie Yarber Curtis and John W. Curtis, Sr. A TIME TO SPEAK John accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a dedicated “trail blazer” in the Lord. He served in the Senior Chorus and Senior Usher Ministry at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Rev. James White, Pastor. A TIME TO GET --- EDUCATION WISE John attended Highland Elementary School and graduated from South Senior High School in 1954 in Omaha. He also attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha. A TIME TO LOVE He was united in Holy Matrimony to Connie Thomas-Curtis on October 8, 1994 at St. Mark Baptist Church. Reverends Adam Burton and Ronnie Eggerson officiated. A TIME TO REJOICE A member of South High School Alumni Association, John served his country on the USS Olmstead, USS Randolph in Norfolk, VA and the USS Constellation in San Diego, CA for 24 years in the United States Navy. When he retired, he worked for Xerox in Customer Services, Shipping and Handling. He took great pride and pleasure in being of service to his family, church and community. John served faithfully as an active member of New Salem M B Church, where he served with diligence and vigor as an ordained deacon and a member of men of distinction under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Henry J. Lyon, Pastor. He was past president and coach for 24 years for Lil Vikes football team. Coaching was a true passion and he was an avid sport fan. A TIME TO BREAK DOWN July 24, 2015 A TIME TO DIE The curtains were drawn and God called for his son, John W. Curtis, Jr. to come home on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Florida Hospital at Connerton, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Curtis, Sr. and Mattie Yarber Curtis, two sisters, Benita Gilchrist and Beverly Mease, Omaha, NE, sister-in-law, Lonzine Curtis. Survived by three brothers, Kenneth Curtis, San Diego, CA, Percy Curtis (Marie), Omaha, NE, John Edmonds (Nancy), Aurora, CO; two sisters, Barbara Ann Curtis and Diane Wilson of Omaha, NE; Curtis children – Franzine Gates (Tex) San Diego, CA; John W. Curtis III (Gina) Omaha, NE; Pamela Alston, Dean Curtis, Brian Curtis, Yvonne Curtis, Minneapolis, MN, Brandon Curtis, Jamila Curtis from Omaha, NE; 22 Grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; step children, Pinky Lofton and Rosco Lofton of Omaha, NE, Robert Lee Thomas, C. Renee Thomas and Christopher Thomas; brother-in-law, Andree Smith. He leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends to cherish his memories. A TIME TO MOURN To accept the accomplishments on his behalf and cherish his memories is his beloved wife, Connie. .
