Riverson Samuel Leonard

Leonard, Riverson Samuel, 73, sailed his final voyage over the horizon and into heaven on August 17, 2015. Born in Rocky Mount, NC, he moved to Tampa with his family in 1951. He attended Plant High School where he earned a football scholarship to the University of Florida. He finished his undergraduate education at the University of Georgia before earning his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law. A long-time resident of Indian Rocks Beach and a Tampa Bay attorney, Sam also enjoyed being a pilot and an avid yachtsman in his free time. Last September, he began a cross-country walk to benefit rehabbing veterans. He had to end his efforts in Galveston, TX, but his walk to Venice Beach, CA, will be finished in his honor by the Travis Manion Foundation. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ida, his sister, Lillian, and brother, Steve. He is survived by his two loving children, Riverson “Rip” and Julie, his sister, Jane, and many extended family members. A special thanks to Cathy, Joe, Darby and Jeff, and his many cherished friends. A private celebration of Sam’s life will be held at a later date.
