Donna Lu Wood

Donna Lu Wood, born October 19th, 1935, died peacefully at home February 3rd, 2013 in Seminole, FL. Donna was the loving, faithful wife to Bernard "Bernie" Wood, the mother of Michael Cryer, Patricia Shepherd-Korchak and Christopher Wood, the step-mother of Cynthia Blaske, Pamela Kerr, Bernard (Chip) Wood and Sandra Smith; grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of 6, sister of Nonita Sikma, sister-in-law of Gladys West, Charlotte Painter West, Carol West, Harold "Dyke" Sikma, and Rich and MaryBeth Wood. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Milton West, Jim West, Roger "Red" West, Donal West (her twin), and her beloved grandson, Brant. Born in Momence, IL, Donna attended Momence High School (where she was head-cheerleader, prom and homecoming queen) and the Northern Illinois Teacher's College. She resided in both Kankakee and Aroma Park, IL before moving to Seminole FL. Known for her beautiful smile, undeniable cheer and fierce loyalty, Donna championed the cause of hundreds of Bill's Friends. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, spending time with her family and friends, and Wii Bowling! Her tenacity was matched by her propensity for love - she cared for so many…and so many cared for her! Donna Lu will be sorely missed, but has given all of us so many wonderful memories to warm our hearts while we mourn her passing. We thank her for forcing us to pose for endless pictures at all of our gatherings…the pictures will be our visual reminders of her beauty, both inside and out. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 11th, 2013, followed by a reception at Reese Funeral Home. There will be another Memorial Service in Kankakee, IL at a later date and that will be announced in the Kankakee Journal, the Momence, IL paper, and on this website.
