Floyd Stephen Hulsey
July 14th, 1942 - July 28th, 2021
Mr. Floyd Stephen “Steve” Hulsey, age 79 a resident of Auburndale, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale surrounded by his family & friends. Mr. Hulsey was born July 14, 1942 in Anniston, Alabama to Martin T. and Pearl (Wilkerson) Wisniewski. He was an Auburndale resident since 1955 coming from Alabama. He graduated from Winter Haven High School, attended University of Florida and continued his education graduating from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor‘s Degree in Journalism and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He was a member of Dixie Highway Baptist Church in Lakeland and a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Steve retired after 29 years of service from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as the Senior Human Resources Practitioner also a State Certified Law Enforcement Instructor. Steve wrote and was a published non-fiction, published suspense novels, short stories and non-fiction articles. He was a member of the USS Semmes DDG-18 Association. Steve enjoyed writing, reading, learning, scuba diving, water skiing, coaching Little League Baseball, youth Softball, youth football announcer and loved spending time with his family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; the dad who raised him from age 4 – Walter E. Hulsey; Steve’s wife Sandra Jean Cochran Hulsey in 2015 and sister – Sharon Hulsey. Steve is survived by his loving family, son – Michael (Misty) Hulsey of Cape Coral; daughter – Donna (Alan) Elliott of Auburndale; 3 brothers – Kevin (Carol) Hulsey of Bartow, Pat (Patricia) Cochran and Richard (Sandy) Cochran; 2 sisters – Shirley (Bobby) Danford of Winter Haven and Marion (Irving) Smith of Bartow; 2 nephews – Greg (Tonya) Cochran and Ronald Lee Cochran; niece – Sherri (BJ) Beasley; and all their children; 4 grandchildren – Miranda, Cory, Logan & Michael; 4 gt grandchildren – Abel, Kayden, Kolton & Kelsey. Funeral service will be 10:30am Thursday, August 5th with visitation beginning at 9:30am both at Kersey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
