May 10th, 1942 - August 27th, 2021
Mr. Richard Joe Cheek, age 79 a resident of Auburndale, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. Mr. Cheek was born May 10, 1942, in Greensboro, NC to George Cheek and Catherine (Clayton) Cheek. He was a resident of Auburndale since 1949, graduated from Auburndale High School Class of 1960. He served 6 years in the Army National Guard and graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Mr. Cheek was a 30 year school teacher having taught at Brigham Elementary in Winter Haven and Boswell Elementary in Auburndale. He also worked for Kersey Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Auburndale.Mr. Cheek enjoyed antiques, running, and being with his family. Mr. Cheek was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving family, 2 sisters- Wanda Pugh of Auburndale and Sara Herndon of Pleasant Gardens, NC and 2 nieces and 3 nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, September 1st at the Auburndale Memorial Park, 1889 W. Derby Ave., Auburndale. Kersey Funeral Home is helping the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to Good Shepherd Hospice or a charity of your chose.
