Harold John Gilbert

Mr. Harold John Gilbert, age 92, a resident of Auburndale, Florida passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale surrounded by his family. Mr. Gilbert was born April 30, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey to Harold Edson and Margaret Josephine (Collins) Gilbert. He was a resident of Florida for 50+ years coming from New Jersey. Harold retired after 35 years from Pitney Bowles as a Service & Maintenance Person. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict, earning the Korean service medal with 2 bronze stars, United Nations service medal, Combat badge and highest rank of Sargent. He was a member of the Over the Hill Gang Shooting Competition of Sebring and a licensed Pilot. He enjoyed playing guitar with his band, hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, traveling and spending time with his family. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; ½ brother – Ernie and ½ sister – Evelyn. Harold is survived by his loving family, wife of 66 years – Mary Gilbert; 2 daughters – Susan (Cass) Headley and Linda (Paul) Sebena all of Auburndale, Florida; sister – Catherine (John) Anderson of Hardy, Virginia. An inurnment with Military Honors will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date.
