June 3, 1981 ~ June 25, 2016 Michael came into this world with barely a heartbeat. From Providence St. Vincent Medical Center where he was born, he was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital. At 11 months old, Michael was the first baby in Oregon and the second in the U.S. to go home on a ventilator; he set a path for many babies to follow. Michael being deaf, multiply handicapped and medically fragile made this world his own for 35 years. Michael attended many special needs classrooms throughout the Canby and Portland metro area, graduating from the Oregon School for the Deaf. Michael loved flying and traveled with his family on numerous vacations. Disneyland and Hawaii were Mike's favorites. Riding horses began as orthopedic therapy which led to Michael competing in the Equestrian Special Olympics. Michael passed away with his family at his side. Michael is survived by his parents, Ed and Marilyn Montecucco; brothers, Brian (Sylvia), Jason (Joann) and Richard (Katie); and niece and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 am Thursday, July 14, 2016, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 498 NW Ninth Ave., Canby. A rosary will be recited prior to the Mass at 10:30 am. Remembrances may be made to Nursingale for the Medially Fragile, 9900 SW Greenburg Road, #290, Portland, OR 97223 or St. Patrick's cemetery fund.
