Mary Allie Barton

Mary Allie (Whatley) Barton, 83, peacefully left this world on Monday, March 27, 2023 in Lakeland, Florida with her family by her side and entered into God’s kingdom. She was born on June 2, 1939 in Randolph, Alabama, to Willie Whatley and Bertha (Bearden) Whatley. Mary is survived by her husband David; sons Daniel and Stephen; daughter-in-law Dawn; grandsons Luke, Samuel, and Jackson, and her sister Ann. She grew up in Alabama with her six siblings and attended Bibbs High School. After completing her education, Mary moved to Birmingham, where she worked for several years. In 1967, she enrolled at a Bible school located in San Francisco where she met her future husband, David, at the Gospel Tabernacle Church. On June 24, 1972, Mary and David were married at Open Bible Church in San Francisco; they just celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons, Daniel and Stephen, who were the light of her life. Mary loved her boys and daughter-in-law, and cherished spending time with her grandsons. She was preceded in death by her son, Andy (Aug. 7, 1974 - Sept. 23, 1974). Mary was a devoted Christian and pastor’s wife and believed deeply in her salvation. In addition to raising a family, Mary enjoyed attending church, embroidery, quilting and crocheted hats for newborns as part of her ministry. She was outspoken, unwavering and unafraid to share God’s word. She attended Southside Assembly of God, where she enjoyed bible study and made many friends. Family and friends will gather on April 4, 2023 for a visitation at 9:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am at Kersey Funeral Home, 108 Lake Stella Drive, Auburndale, Florida. Mary will be laid to rest at 2:00 pm at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
