Elmer "Wesley" Thompson
April 8th, 1933 - March 15th, 2024
Mr. Elmer ‘Wesley’ Thompson, age 90, a long time previous resident of Auburndale passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Melech Hospice House, Temple Terrace, Florida. Mr. Thompson was born April 8, 1933 in Pineapple, Alabama, to Elmer Lee Thompson and Lora Belle (Beasley) Thompson. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1951. He worked 31 years for Continental Can Company and retired in 1982. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union for 30 years. After retirement, he also worked building homes for Jim Walter Homes and worked laying cable and surveying for AT&T in the 1980s. At the age of 82, Wesley became a Mason, earning his Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason degrees all in 2015. He enjoyed gardening, farming, woodworking, leather work, construction, fishing, hunting, reading his Bible and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 48 years Betty Doris (Benton) Thompson, brother: Truman Thompson, sister: Arlene Combs, daughter: Charlotte Calhoun, grandson: Dennis Calhoun. Wesley is survived by his loving family: sons: Dennis (Sandy) Davis, Lyndon Shayne (Dawn) Pemberton, Stacey Thompson, daughters: Terri (Alan) Schonfeld, Lorida (Michael) Morey, brothers: Richard Stacey (Susie) Thompson, Marcus (Janice) Thompson, 14 grandchildren: William Calhoun, Chris Calhoun, Erica Mobley, Nathan Davis, Leah Davis, Jason Davis, Wes Thompson, Moriah Thompson Spratlen, Colten Thompson, Shawn Mansour, Bryan Piccola, Makenzie Schonfeld, Sarah Morey and Heather Morey, and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Kersey Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1pm. Interment will follow at Auburndale Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made in Wesley Thompson’s memory to the Melech Hospice House in Temple Terrace, Florida or to his church at Fowler Avenue Baptist Church in Temple Terrace, Florida.
