Mrs. Ruby Estelle Ellis, age 84, a resident of Auburndale, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Residential Center in Auburndale due to complications of Alzheimer's. Mrs. Ellis was born May 9, 1926 in Crenshaw County, Alabama, to Horace Lee and Willie E. (Meredith) Schofield. Mrs. Ellis was a Polk County resident for more than 50 years, coming from Alabama. She was a retired sectionizer in the citrus industry and in later years, was employed by Caravan Fashions, Inc. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Highland Home, Alabama. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband David C. Ellis in 1987; 2 sons: Ronnie L. & Joe David Ellis; brother Joe William Schofield; and grandson Shawn Gathagan. Ruby is survived by her loving family: 2 sons: Donnie Ray (Robyn) Ellis of Auburndale, Rickey L. (Tammy) Ellis of Polk City; 2 daughters: Betty (Jack) Jester of Lakeland, Joan (Jerry) Lands of Auburndale; numerous loving relatives in Alabama; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Kersey Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Auburndale Memorial Park. Visitaion will be held before from 10-11 A.M. at the funeral home.
