Harry Leon Humphrey

Harry Leon Humphrey, 42, beloved son of Betty and Jim Bortell, and his paternal father Harry Blazer Humphrey, went home to the lord Sunday afternoon August 21st, 2011 after a long battle with heart problems. During his time here with us he accomplished a great deal. If you were to have asked Leon about his life he would tell you that he was blessed to have gone to many places and make many lifelong friends during his journeys. When his health had allowed it he was always on the go. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his family and dear friends. He had so many friends that will remember him with gratitude. He was preceded in death by his paternal father Harry. Leon is survived by his adoring mother Betty Bortell, his devoted dad Jim Bortell, sister Gina Gonzalez, and brother Jacob Bortell. Leon was born in Lakeland, Florida on January 24th, 1969. He attended East Bay High School in Hillsborough County and graduated in 1987. After graduation, he worked at Ace Hardware in Ruskin, FL and later, moved to Maryland where he began his career. Leon was a communications technician. He specialized in satellite and cellular service. He was also an electrician by trade. He worked and traveled all over the United States installing commercial satellite dishes and later worked in Mexico installing satellite dishes. Leon was one of the electicians that worked on the famous New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington DC. He helped install a lighting system in the Lincoln Memorial Tower. Leon also was privledge to work on the White House and the Pentagon and NASA. During his time living in the Northeastern USA, Leon lent his time and talents to the charity Meals on Wheels as well as other causes providing for the needy. Leon never met a stranger, and was always there to help others in need. His hobbies were assembling and flying model helicopters and planes, home computers, video games, and all thing involving the newest technology. He was fascinated with all things electronical. In loving memory of Leon; son, brother, uncle, and friend. We find comfort in knowing you are with the lord and watching over us. We are thankful that you are no longer suffering. We feel blessed to have known you and to have loved you. Rest in peace.
