John Sidney Martin
October 12th, 1946 - May 22nd, 2020
John Sidney Martin, age 73, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Friday, May 22, 2020. He was born October 12, 1946 in Hannibal, Missouri to Elmer Martin and Mary Kyer. John grew up in Englewood, Illinois. He served in the Army for four years and was a Vietnam veteran. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter, and Two Overseas Bars. When he returned from serving his country he joined the police force in Evanston, Illinois and served for over twenty-five years.John met Maral Martin on a routine traffic call, where Maral did not stand a chance against John's charm, smile, and gentle way of handling himself. She soon became his loving wife. John enjoyed fifteen years of retirement full of the joy of the Lord spent with family, friends, and helping his wife with her business as a hair salon owner. In 2015 John and his immediate family made the move to Colorado Springs to fulfill God's call on his life. Colorado Springs is where John and his family attended and served proudly at Church For All Nations. John's love for Jesus was central to his life. During his later years, his revelation and surrender to the love of God became the single most important thing to him. His servant heart showed the most with how he loved and served his family unconditionally. John will be remembered greatly for his compassionate and attentive nature. No matter who he was engaged with, young or old, friend or stranger, he gave his undivided attention and demonstrated the love of God in such a particular and special way. If you knew him, you understand. He was a man of great integrity, who was well respected by many. In the latter days of March, John was diagnosed with cancer, but his mindset never shifted from the eternal perspective he always carried. In his home, John passed from this temporary life to his permanent home in the very presence and peace of his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. John is survived by his four children, Maurice Martin, Marcel Martin, Taleen Ellis, and Lenna Martin. John will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Michael Martin, Hannah Martin, and Maxwell Martin.Visitation, 10:00AM-11:00AM, with a Funeral Service immediately following, 11:00AM, Friday, May 29, 2020, Church For All Nations, 6540 Templeton Gap Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80923.
