Arthur T. Janes
October 15th, 1935 - December 6th, 2018
Art Janes, 83 of Sun City Center, FL played his last round of golf on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Art was born in West Palm Beach, FL and was a proud veteran of the US Air Force, serving in Korea and upon returning to the states, he was stationed in Ft. Walton Beach, FL where he saved the lives of two comrades from drowning on April 5, 1956 and was a recipient of the Soldiers medal for Heroism. In 1962 Art started and ran South Shore’s premier insurance agency “Art Janes Insurance”. The company continued to grow over the years and his son, Wesley and daughter Becky joined him in the family business. He received a plaque from Auto Owners for 50 yrs. of service, one of the many companies that he represented as an independent agent, and with his friend and business partner, John Yoho, handling the Commercial side as Gulf Coast Commercial Insurance. Art was an avid boater and over the years he had several boats including the 48 ft. trawler named the “Over Forty” his favorite. He was also very active in the community serving as President of the Rotary club of Ruskin, Mayor of Ruskin and a member of the Goat Ropers Society. He was an avid reader, loved college football and of course golf and over his lifetime had two holes-in-one. He also loved sharing stories about his interesting life. Art was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his wife of 26.5 year, Shelia. His son Arthur Wesley Janes, Daughter Becky Leonard, Step-Daughter Laurie Turner, and Step-Son David Rogers. Grandchildren; Ashley Janes, Travis Janes, Gregory Leonard and wife Vera, Raquel Janes and Logan Turner. Great-Grandchildren; Katie Johnson, Chase Johnson, AJ Janes, Katie Leonard, Gage Leonard, David Leonard and Jacob Leonard. Art had many friends, and will be missed by all who knew him as he goes to be with his father in heaven and all his friends who have preceded him. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Sun City Center Funeral Home on 1851 Rickenbacker Dr. on December 22 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a service immediately following at 12:00 pm. There will be an interment at Ruskin Memorial Park with Military Honors. We take solace in knowing that he is in a far better place and left us the way he had wanted. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made in Art’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
