With profound sadness, Jacqueline announces the death of husband Michael Brian Sheehy, Age 76. He passed on February 5, 2024, in the ICU of Southshore Hospital in Sun City Center with wife, Jacqueline by his side. Michael was born April 17, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Queen, N.Y. He graduated from Xavier High School in Manhattan, earned a BS in Mathematics from Assumption University in Worcester, M.A. While pursuing a master’s degree at Kansas State University he was “drafted” and served in the USAF from 1969 – 1973. When serving at NATO HQ in The Netherlands, he met and married Jacqueline, a nurse in the R.A.F. in August, 1972. After an honorable discharge in 1973, Michael returned to Kansas State University to complete his master’s degree and he eventually earned a PhD in Mathematics Education. Michael became a professor and taught Mathematics at Marymount College of Kansas in Salina, Kansas. When the college closed in 1989, he moved to Mountainside, N.J., close to family. He became a tenured Professor at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, N.J. teaching Advanced Calculus and eventually became Chair of the Math. Dept. After retiring in 2015, he and Jacqueline moved to Valencia Lakes, Wimauma, Florida. He is preceded in death by parents Jane H. and Martin J. Sheehy. Michael is survived by wife, Jacqueline, brother Martin, nieces Susan Malanka, Christina McCartin and Melissa Sheehy, great-nieces Katie Malanka, Callie McCartin, great-nephews Daniel Malanka and James McCartin. Michael loved animals and rescued many dogs over time. He was also an avid Bridge player for many years becoming a Ruby Life Master and being a very popular partner for many Bridge players in the local community. He loved to travel, especially cruising, and travelled to Europe multiple times. Also, to the Baltic, Alaska, Hawaii and Tahiti. He was a supporter of St. Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota. Since Michael’s passing it has become very dear how loved he was by friends, neighbors and former colleagues. He is remembered for his great personality, smile and sense of humor. There will be a viewing on February 27th at 2pm – 3pm for family and at 3pm – 4pm for friends at Sun City Center Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center at 10am, February 28th.
