Rebecca Anne Sisson

Rebecca A. SISSON BRUNDRETT, PhD, RN, 69, died Dec. 23, 2008. Becky was born in Christiansburg, VA to Francis W. Sisson and Kathleen Charlton Sisson. She is survived by her husband, Donald Brundrett of Apollo Beach, FL, a sister, Nancy (Brent) Langford of Richmond, VA, a niece, Teresa Langford of Virginia Beach, VA, a nephew, Scott (Melanie) Langford of Berlin, CT, and a grand-niece, Sara Langford. She is also survived by two aunts, Mrs. Kitty McCoy of Radford, VA, and Mrs. Ruth (Archie) Cromer of Christiansburg, as well as a number of cousins. She moved with her family to Richmond when nine years of age where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and the Medical College of Virginia. She received her Master's degree from Catholic University and her Doctorate in nursing from the University of Texas (Austin). She taught nursing at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN), the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta), the Univ. of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston), the Univ. of California San Francisco, and the University of South Florida. She was recently awarded the title of Professor Emeritus at USF. Rebecca joined the Virginia Air National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant nurse and served in several Air Guard and Air Force Reserve units across the country. She was called to active duty during Operation Desert Storm. She retired with the rank of Colonel after 27 years of service. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne Catholic Church, 106 11th Avenue NE, Ruskin, FL on Friday Dec. 26 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your charity of choice. A memorial service will be held in Richmond, VA at a later date.
