Barbara Anne Burke-Wyrick
January 3rd, 1933 - October 8th, 2011
Barbara Anne Burke-Wyrick, 78, born in Longview, TX, on January 3, 1933, went home to the Lord on October 8, 2011. She was a current resident of Sun City Center. She was the only daughter of Lawrence F. and Lillian Russell Burke. She passed, in a Tampa hospital, after a series of prolonged illnesses. She is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Lt. Col. Donald M. Wyrick, USAF, retired; also, by a younger brother Dr. Larry R. Burke and his wife Linda of Nachitoches, LA.; nephew, Dr. James B. Burke, his wife, Lynn, and their daughters Emily and Amy of Shreveport, LA.; three nieces: Cathy Burke Sutton, husband, Mark and sons Matthew and Marshall of Natchitoches; Barbara Burke Townsend and her children, Austin and Katherine of Shreveport, LA. ; Meredith Burke Needleman, husband Josh, and their children, Lake, Lucy Ray, and Eloise of Dallas, TX. There are three surviving step children that Barbara adored, Jake of Las Vegas, NV; SMSGT Clint Wyrick, USAF; Colonel (Dr.) Brett Wyrick, USAF, and seven step grand children. Barbara spent her life career of 42 years as an elementary public school teacher and in the Department of Defense Dependent Overseas Schools (DoDDS), teaching the children of American military personnel stationed overseas. She retired in 1995 after having postings to France, Germany, Philippines, and Japan. She was a dedicated educator who taught and instilled values and skills to hundreds of students who have subsequently gone on to serve humanity and their country. Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at St Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1239 Del Webb Boulevard West, Sun City Center, Fla. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested donations to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Research Center, 12902 USF Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612 Her achievements in life were many, her job well done, may she now rest in peace and the grace of God.
