Ahern, Charles J., 94 of Sun City Center, Fla passed away January 28, 2013. He graduated with honors from Spring Hill College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and was in the Spring Hill Football Hall of Fame. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a lieutenant. He retired from the New York City Fire Department after 20 years of service with the rank of lieutenant and later retired again as trust fund administrator for the International Union of Operating Engineers. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Alice, a son and daughter in law, Brian and Rosemarie Ahern, two daughters and son in laws, Irene and Inal Abaza and Kathy and Keith Poertner and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center, Fla. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Life Path Hospice, 3725 Upper Creek Drive, Ruskin, Fla 33573. Arrangements by Sun City Center Funeral Home, Sun City Center, Fla (813) 634-9900
