John E. HURLEY, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away on July 2, 2016, at the age of 94. He was happily married for 64 years to the late Marguerite M. (Casey) Hurley (d. 2009). A devoted father, he was loved by his children, Maureen Parkinson (Roger), Toronto, ONT, Brian Hurley (Kathleen), Plymouth, MA, Patricia Wieser (Jeff), Westport, CT, and David Hurley (Elaine), Sudbury, MA. He was a cherished grandfather of Deborah, Daniel, Casey, Teddy, Charlie, Erinn, Lauren, Matt, Christina, and Jack, as well as 10 great grandchildren. Jack spent his professional career in the electrical power industry, starting as an engineer for Boston Edison and eventually as Director of Power Planning for Northeast Utilities. He was an original member of the New England Power Planning group, formed in 1969 in response to the Great Northeast Blackout of 1965. During WW2 he was a communications officer for the US Army stationed in Greenland. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1943 with a BSEE and completed an MBA from Northeastern in 1954. He lived in Westwood, MA (1951-1969), Wilbraham, MA (1969-1982), and following retirement, Sun City Center, FL (1982-2016). Despite years of physical adversity, Jack maintained his sense of humor and positive outlook that was an inspiration to all who knew him. A funeral service will be conducted 11am, Friday, July 8, 2016 at Sun City Center Funeral Home, Sun City Center, FL., followed by a Burial at Sarasota National Cemetery.
