Jane Walker, 92 - US Navy Veteran Jane Helen (Emery) Walker, loving wife of the late Jay Wallace Walker, and mother of three sons, Mark Andrew Walker & wife Sandra (Berlin) Walker of Menlo Park, California, David William Walker and Craig Sheldon Walker both of Watertown, Massachusetts, passed peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2017 with family by her side in Sun City Center, Florida. Jane was born on March 16, 1924 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Frederick William Emery and Gladys Winifred Brown. She was raised in Cambridge, Wellesley and Somerville, Massachusetts. Following the death of her mother in 1926, when Jane was two years old, she was raised by her beloved aunt, A. Edna Emery and her grandparents, Annie Elizabeth (Parry) Emery and William Francis Emery. Jane graduated from Lesley College (now Lesley University) in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1943 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Following her graduation, Jane was employed as a teacher by the Green Acres School in Waltham, Massachusetts. In April 1944, during World War II, Jane enlisted in the United States Navy, in the division known as the WAVES, where she completed two years of service, achieving the level of Seaman First Class, stationed at the flight clearance office at the US Naval Air Station in Banana River, Florida until her honorable discharge in February 1946. Jane married Jay Wallace Walker of Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 13, 1952, at Saint James Episcopal Church in Cambridge and resided in Cambridge before relocating to Watertown, Massachusetts where they raised their family. After her husband Jay's untimely death in 1974 at age 51, Jane began a career in banking, serving with Cambridge Savings Bank in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Belmont Savings Bank in Belmont, Massachusetts until her retirement in 1989. Since 1989, Jane lived in Florida, first residing in Ellenton before relocating to Sun City Center in 1999. Jane's retirement years were consistently active and productive; she continued to be a member of the Episcopal church, engaged with volunteer organizations in her communities and developed a large network of friends, as she had throughout her life in New England. Jane also leaves her sister, Dorothy Pauline Reichel of Altamont, Tennessee and her half-brother, William Emery of Seal Beach, California, along with extended family and friends throughout the United States. Jane's sons offer their most sincere thanks to all the staff at Aston Gardens at The Courtyards, the assisted living community where Jane resided during the last few years of her life, a life of happiness, comfort and community. Enough cannot be said about the caring staff at Aston Gardens for not only providing an environment of care that gives their residents a sense of home, but also peace of mind for the residents' families. Additionally, we want to offer our sincere thanks to the Sun City Center Hospice House, an organization of LifePath Hospice, where Jane was cared for during the final moments of her life. The staff at Sun City Center Hospice House are truly exceptional in their dedication and compassion to their patients and to their patients' family members. The family encourages those who would like to honor Jane to contribute to the Sun City Center Hospice House. Gifts in Jane's memory may be made to the Sun City Center Hospice House at https://lifepathhospice.chaptershealth.org/GeneralDonation. A memorial service for Jane is being planned for a later date in Massachusetts where she will be interred with the love of her life, her husband Jay.
