James Adam Huggins, 40 of St. Petersburg, FL & formerly of Havana, Il died unexpectedly January 24, 2024 in his home. Born 11-28-1983 in Peoria, Il to Brian F. Huggins & Eva Jane “Mohlman” Huggins. He leaves behind: his parents, stepmother Cheryl Huggins, wife Orteillia Huggins, brother Joseph D. Huggins, sister Rachel & Jay Gonzalez, nephews: Jaden, Dylan, & Ethan Gonzalez, niece Adalyn Gonzalez. Aunts: Carla Huggins Hart, Diane Huggins Schad, & Margaret Mohlman. Uncle Gene Mohlman. Best friend Mark & Dana Castellano. His beloved German Shephard Bruno. Too many cousins, friends, & business associates to list! Preceding him: Grandparents Herb & Ruth Huggins, Clayton & Bertha Mohlman, step grandfather Harold Smith, Uncles: Neil Mohlman & Greg Huggins. Aunt Benita Mohlman. As a teen he worked for Jim & Eric Stelter farming in Havana. He grew up in Havana & in 2002 he moved to Florida with his father for his senior year in high school in St. Petersburg. James had some adversities in his teens. He holds the record for the highest GED score in the state of Florida. WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE WONDERFUL, CARING MAN YOU BECAME! 2007 James was blessed to be hired as an apprentice electrician by a wonderful family-owned business, Merit Electric of Largo, FL. 2011 he graduated as Apprentice of the Year. 2018 he was promoted to General Superintendent of Merit Electric. His brother Joseph Huggins joined him in 2014 as an apprentice & graduated in 2018. Intelligent, articulate, compassionate, funny, & goofy at times. Dedicated to family, friends, & Merit Electric. He was always helping others & encouraging them to reach their full potential. He loved building & fixing everything. He was a master with his grill & smoker. Free time was spent with family & friends, swimming, kayaking, & time spent with Bruno. Florida Celebration of Life: Friday, March 8, 2024, 3-6pm @ Big Storm Brewery, St. Petersburg, Florida. Illinois Celebration of Life: @ Havana, IL VFW Post #6408. Date/time to be determined.
