McCoy, Richard C. “Dick”, 81, of Clearwater and Tampa, FL passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on March 19, 2024. Dick was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Parkersburg WV. He played football and wrestled while in high school. He went on to play football at Morehead State University on a full athletic scholarship. After he experiencing a football-ending injury, he worked his way through college and graduated from the University of Kentucky. He moved to Florida in 1966 and had a long successful career with GTE/Verizon. Dick was preceded in death by his daughter Julie McCoy Hill; his brother William “Bill” A. McCoy, Jr, and his parents William, Sr and Virginia McCoy. He is survived by his wife Marcia McCoy, his son-in-law Erthel Hill, his favorite grandson Evan Hill, many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur babies Izzy and Smokey. Dick was a great husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, and “outlaw”. He was also a great friend. He made new friends easily and kept close relationships with many lifelong friends. He loved animals, loved building things with his hands, was always willing to help others, and felt a day in which he accomplished something was a good and worthwhile day. His witty sense of humor and feisty spirit will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Southeast Guide Dogs or Humane Society of Pinellas County.
