Frederick H Engel

Frederick "Fred" Henry Engel, Jr., 77, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Fred was born in Finleyville, PA on February 6, 1935 to Frederick and Marie Engel. He served as a Corporal Ground Guidance Specialist in the Army from 1953 to 1956. He moved to FL in 1959 to pursue a career in the aerospace industry with Burroughs Corporation. Fred worked as an engineer on the Guidance computers for the Atlas, Mercury, and Gemini programs. He also worked on the Space Shuttle from the beginning of the program with Rockwell International before retiring from Boeing in 2000. Fred was a fun loving husband, father and friend. He enjoyed coaching little league, fishing, tennis, gardening, tinkering with cars and electronics, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy, of Satellite Beach; son, Fred (Kathy) Engel of Melbourne; daughters, Cindy Engel of Satellite Beach; Laura (Bob) Flynn of Brentwood, TN and Christie (Woodie) Hopper of Denver, CO; 9 dearly loved grandchildren; and siblings, Sarah Sculimbrene of Munhall, PA; Richard Engel of Finleyville, PA; and Charles Engel of Orange Park, FL . A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May12th at 11 am at Beach Funeral Home with a reception following at the Engel residence.
