Fred Conrad, 98, of Melbourne, FL passed away Monday, January 19, 2015. He was loved by his family and admired by the many friends he made through the years. Born in Seattle, Washington on May 30, 1916, Fred enjoyed an adventurous childhood both in Seattle and Alaska. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the US Army. He eventually transferred into the Army Air Force and from there transitioned in the US Air Force when it was created in 1948. He retired in 1965 credited with 31 years and 5 months of service. He attained the rank of CW04. During his military career he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp Medal for Humane Action, National Defense Service Medal, Berlin Airlift Device and the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal with 6 bronze oak leaf clusters. He is survived by his 4 children, Carol L. Johnson (Roger, Deceased), Susan C Matthews (Jay Mac), Michelle K Conrad, Michael F. Conrad (Phyllis), 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by step children, Mary Ann Anderson, Dawn Shier (Gerald), Jacqueline Becker (Kevin) and Michele Tyson and her significant other Neal D'Angelo,7 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Pauline A. Conrad, second wife Arlene A. Conrad, grandson Jay Mac Matthews Jr. and step-daughter Yvonne Strycula (Jim). A memorial service will be held at Beach Funeral Home Indian Harbour Beach, FL on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 with visitation from 10:00-11:00.
