Jim was born to Francis Elizabeth Lunsford Macy and Joseph Dorus Macy in Indianapolis, IN. At age 16, he enlisted in the US Navy serving proudly on the Aircraft Carrier USS-Randolph in the Med before returning stateside for a two-year posting in Key West. He never left Florida again except for forced vacations. He served as a fire fighter for the City of Miami in the 60's and by the 1972 had earned an AA from Broward Community College, a BA and an MA in Education from Florida Atlantic University. He owned Service Plus Pest Control and Landscaping for 20 years before moving to Brevard in 2001 and forming Service Plus as a property managing entity. He still managed properties in Satellite Beach. In 1992 Jim married Marcia (Burpee) Meskiel whom he met as a founding board member of The Downtown Festival of the Arts. Together they led inaugural committees for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from ground clearing to community outreach publicity and fundraising efforts. Jim's contributions to Fort Lauderdale's Downtown Development Association earned the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel 's Business Man of the Year/Excalibur Award. In addition to his wife, Jim leaves Marcia's three children John (Mary) Meskiel, JT (Natalie) Meskiel and Amy Hansen and his son Jeffrey Swain (Connie). His grandchildren Jaden Swain, Strider, Judah, Winter and Marina Meskiel will miss his loving hand and teary-eyed emotion during visits. His mother-in-law Roberta Burpee will fondly remember dinners every Sunday with Jimbo. The saddest 'child' of all is his constant companion O'Reilly, Jim's Chorkie,. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 8, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to tinybugdogrescues (a 501©3 Non Profit and the organization that found our little O'Reilly) and posted to Susan Finnegan's account at Village Animal Hospital, 1340 Palm Bay Road, Palm Bay, FL 32904 (321) 725-9770 by indicating 'in memory of Jim Macy for tbdr' in the memo line. *DUE TO WEATHER, SERVICES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED.
