David R. Grogan, 83, passed away at home, following a long illness on Monday, January 30, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Linda (Stangle) Grogan, his daughter, Kimberly Lynn Grogan his children, David Grogan Jr, Linda Loveday, Johnny Grogan, Gloria Joyce Wandzilzak, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His siblings Jayne Pascarell, Esther Grogan, William (Pam) Grogan, Richard (MaryAnne D.) Grogan, Mary Grogan, Margaret (George Tucker) Grogan. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Barbara Adams Grogan and Jay Orville Grogan, his brothers Harold and Kenneth Grogan and son Daniel Grogan. Dave was born and raised in upstate New York on December 22, 1933. He spent his childhood along the Historic Erie canal way in Troy, NY. He joined the Army in 1951 at the young age of 18 and was stationed in many of the world hot spots such as Vietnam, Panama, Germany, Taiwan, Okinawa and many other foreign countries. Dave's military career spanned 3 decades and he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. Very early on in his military career, Dave was designated the title of "Jump Master" in the Air Bourne Division while completing 117 parachute jumps with no major injuries. Dave was also a member of the elite Special Forces Group and proudly wore his green beret. Dave was a highly-decorated officer and earned the following commendation and awards: (2) Bronze Stars, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster 2nd Award; Meritorious Service Awards 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, 2nd Award: Army Commendation Medals 3 Awards, Good Conduct Medal 3 Awards; Vietnamese Medal of Honor 2nd Class; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnamese Training Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; Master Parachutist Wings; Vietnamese Jump Wings. During his service to our country, Dave completed his GED diploma and graduated with an Associate's degree from the State University of New York. After retiring from active duty, Dave along with his wife, Linda and young daughter Kimberly, continued to travel the world as a private communications consultant working for the Pentagon and State Department in many US Embassies around the world until approximately 2008 when he finally hung up his hat after more than 57 years of service to our great country and retired in sunny eastern Florida enjoying his remaining years with his family and wide network of friends. Dave's greatest passions were his family first, his large and loyal group of friends, his fly fishing, a bit of poker and perhaps a game or two of darts added in to round out a full and rewarding life. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Beach Funeral Home located at 1689 South Patrick Dr. in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. Calling hours will begin at 1:00 pm and a celebration of Dave's life will be recognized at 2:30. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
