Donald Dobbs, 79, of Melbourne Florida, passed away February 11, 2017. He decided to join the United States Air Force at the age of 17 with his father's permission. He had the good fortune to be stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas early in his career. It was there that he met his future wife and his children would be born. He went on to serve his country for 23 years before retiring in Florida. He began work at the Post Office for a period of time before returning to a familiar role within the Civil Service at Patrick Air Force Base. When the military decided to make the transportation operations for Patrick Air Force Base a contracted service, he became the operations manager overseeing the contract. Eventually when the contract was taken over by another group, he returned to Civil Service becoming an Aerospace Quality Control Specialist. Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved traveling, taking memorable trips to Europe and Asia. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. Whether he was known as Dad, Grandpa, or Granddaddy, he was happiest at the center of his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Venita La Verne Dobbs, daughter; Donna Lewis, son; John Dobbs; grandchildren; Ryan Reid, Stephanie Reid, Aaron Reid, Arionna Lewis, Isabel Dobbs Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Beach Funeral Home located at 4999 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne, FL 32940. Visitation hours will begin at 2:00 pm and a celebration of Donald's life will be recognized at 3:00.
