Ann Nancy Slane, 77, peacefully passed away on July 6, 2010 after succumbing to lung cancer. Born and raised in NYC she graduated from Bellevue school of Nursing as an RN and soon moved to North Babylon, LI to raise a family. After retiring to Melbourne in 1994 with her husband she joined the parish at the Chapel of the Holy Family in Melbourne. As a devout Traditionalist Catholic her faith was a large part of her life. Nancy became an active member of the Rosary Alter Society as well as an enthusiastic supporter of the Adopt-A-Platoon program for our Armed Services. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Maj. Terence J. Slane Ret.; her six children, Patricia Cali (John), Catherine Slane, Teresa Bertha (William), Virginia Slane Grillo (Matthew), Terence P. Slane and Patrick Slane; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, sister-in-laws, brothers and brother-in-laws; Dorothy Tierney (John), Frank Chickory (Ann), Robert Chickory (Gail) and Virginia Chickory. Nancy was extremely intelligent and an avid reader. She was warm and lively and took a sincere interest in everyone she met and will be sorely missed by those she touched in this life. Visitation will be held Friday, July 9, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Beach Funeral Home in Melbourne. Services for Nancy will be on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 9 a.m. at The Chapel of the Holy Family on Wickham Road followed by internment at the Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge. Those of you who wish to honor her memory may make donations to the Adopt a Platoon at www.Adopt-a-Platoon.org.
