Kevin ""Lako"" Barry Lake
July 5th, 1967 - February 5th, 2020
Kevin B. Lake Jr. “Lako” There is no way to encompass who this man was on one or a hundred sheets of paper. For all that knew him, you know this to be true. He was audacious yet introspective, boisterous and brusque yet, thoughtful and kind…and let us not forget, hilarious. He was, in every sense of the phrase, “a gentle giant.” Kevin’s personality was colossal…magnetic. He was full of life and loved every person in his circle with his entire being… and there were many. He would not hesitate to invite a stranger to his home, if he thought they needed a warm bed. His kindness and generosity could not be reckoned with. His family and friends were his world, his kids…his proudest and most cherished gift to the world. Kevin loved his children more than life. In addition to shooting guns and lighting flamethrowers, he and Ben shared a love of music, movie quotes and literature, with a special affinity for Hemingway and Kerouac. Bella and her dad loved sharing music, bike rides, swimming, surfing, going to rodeos and lots of Facetime calls. Ben and Bella loved spending time going to the movies with their dad and watching the rockets go up from Cape Canaveral. Kevin found “the love of his life” and spent his last few years with his “partner in crime” Shannon. They spread joy and laughter on their adventures together. He told everyone that upon their meeting, she had him at “messy bun”. Melbourne Beach was his sanctuary. Surfing fed his soul. He watched the turtles hatch and would look over them to ensure that the hatchlings made it to the ocean, unscathed. Third Cliff & The Spit in Scituate were his haven. His mom, Patricia, dad, Kevin, sister, Kristine, aunt, Mona, and many childhood friends were staples in life. He knew they were always his safe place to fall and in return, he filled them up and graced them with his majestic presence and his God given gift of laughter. He would be sure to let everyone know in advance that he was coming to town, so they could plan the parade. Kevin spent his childhood with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, some in Weymouth, MA, and some at the family cottage in Marshfield, MA., all of whom he adored. Kevin’s childhood memories, he made known, were some of the things that he was most grateful for in his life and are etched in his heart eternally. Kevin lit up every room he entered with life and laughter. He found the humor in absolutely every situation and left a tremendous wake in his path. Our lives were better with him in it. His legacy will live on in every single person he touched, whether you knew him for a moment or a lifetime. Kevin will be missed more than what can possibly be expressed in words. “Lako” lived his life like there was no tomorrow. He did what he set out to do, in his own words: “burn it to the filter”. Kevin is survived by his mother: Patricia Lake of Scituate, MA, his sister: Kristine Lake of Naples, FL, his son: Benjamin Lake of Melbourne Beach, his daughter: Isabella Lake of East Windsor, CT, his love: Shannon Wood of Melbourne Beach. Services for Kevin including a funeral Mass will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to The Home For Little Wanderers in his name. http://www.thehome.org/
