Rozel Swain

Rozel Annette Swain (Sciulli, Lee) of Tampa and Brandon, passed away September 23, 2017. Rozel was a lifelong Hillsborough County resident. She graduated from H.B. Plant High School (Class of 72) and Florida State University (76) where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and a little sister of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Upon returning to Tampa, Rozel began a career as an educator and a sports journalist at The Tampa Tribune. In each phase of her life she made many lasting and cherished friendships. She leaves behind her daughter, Ansley Sciulli Charnock (Nathan) of Riverview; step-grandson, Kevin Michael Safford of Lakeland; sisters, Tina Swain Maslankowski (Lee) of Epworth, GA and Wendy Swain Cox (Bill) of Mineral Bluff, GA; lifelong friends, Charleen Cavaleri Corbett and Carolyn Diaz Morris; and many dear and beloved cousins on both the LaRussa and Swain sides of her family. Rozel is reunited with her parents, Rose Spoto (Swain) and Phillip Swain, brother, Phillip Anthony Swain, Jr.; grandparents, Josephine (nee LaRussa) and Salavatore Spoto and Mary and Wilbur Swain. The family gives special thanks to those who helped Rozel in many ways: Eugene Sciulli, David Swain, Eileen Swain, Suzanne Hanna Shahan, Sally Scaglione Barcello, Lisa Burnett Cook, Theresa Winsey and Rebecca Worley who so generously adopted Rozel’s beloved fur babies Maggie and Sugarbelle. A funeral service will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, on October 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM, with a reception immediately following in the church’s Mary Martha Center. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity.
