Morris L Youngdahl

Youngdahl, Morris L., 90 of The Lodges of Idlewild in Lutz, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Morris was born in Brockway, PA and after graduating from Penn State University in 1950, started his music teaching career in the Fairview, PA school district the same year. In addition to his teaching schedule he was a Music Minister for several churches in the Erie area and conducted many regional choirs, community bands and was a founding member of the Dixie Doodlers. His greatest joy was performing as an outstanding bassist in many bands in the Erie area. Morris and his wife Shirley retired to Land O lakes Florida in 1985 where he continued his musical endeavors. He performed with popular big bands in the area including: Lloyd Johns Gulf Bay, Frank Parsons and the Serenaders. Even in his later years, his musical talent never diminished. In his last group, Morris and Friends, he continued playing once a month to the enjoyment of his many friends at The Lodges. Morris was a tenor vocalist in the famed Master Chorale of Tampa Bay and the Mendelsohn Choir. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and continued to be active in music performance. He enjoyed classic antique cars, was an avid reader and gathering around the table with his dear friends Carol, Lois, and his "old college chum", Sir Francis. Morris was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Shirley M. Youngdahl, his parents, Arthur and Ethel Youngdahl, his brother, Dr. Donald Youngdahl and sister Burnell Monsen. He is survived by son Jon T. Youngdahl (Sharon), Carol Youngdahl, Kristin Wastell (Alan) and Lisa Hammond (Dave) as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Our family would like to acknowledge all of the staff and caregivers at Angels Senior Living, The Lodges of Idlewild, for their exceptional loving care and kindness to our father.
