Dorothy Marie Caruso
November 24th, 1946 - January 9th, 2016
CARUSO, Dorothy Marie, 69, of San Antonio, FL, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016. She was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York on November 24, 1946, until she moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey in 1968 after marrying the love of her life, Larry. She was beloved in the neighborhood and well known as the Special Activities director for the Old Bridge Parks and Recreation Department, where she grew the Special Education program, as well as ran numerous sold-out trips into New York City to see Broadway shows. She was an amazing hostess who loved opening her home to cook for and entertain friends and family. She was known as a second mother to her childrens’ friends, always there to lend an ear, give advice and feed them huge bowls of pasta and pierogis. She and husband, Larry followed their kids to Florida in 1991 where she fulfilled her dream of owning and operating a cruise-only travel agency. She later enjoyed a career in the banking industry. Dorothy loved cooking, indoor and outdoor horticulture, taking cruises with family, playing Scrabble, and Words with Friends, anything with daisies, sequins or rhinestones, fabulous shoes, and most of all, being silly with her grandkids, whom she cherished and adored. She was always known for her infectious laugh, incredible wit, and her beautiful smile. Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother Sophie, father Michael, and her Uncle Walter who was a major influence throughout her life. She is survived by her husband: Lawrence Sr. for 47 years; son: Larry and wife Liane; daughter: Dae and husband Scott; sister: Barbara; and five grandchildren: Larry, Scotty, Reilly, Kyle, and Lila. A memorial service will be at Loyless Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 7:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
