SANTOS, Antonio G. Sr., MD "Tony" 82, of Dade City, FL passed away Tuesday, April, 5, 2016. He was born in the Philippines on October 3, 1933, the second son of 9 children to Fausto M. and Maria G. Santos. He was the second of his family to attend college, finishing with his medical degree from University of Santo Tomas in 1959. His medical career began in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines, where he was appointed and served as Medical Director of Angeles City Hospital for 10 years. After a decade of practice, Tony moved his family to the United States in 1973. He completed an additional year of internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Tony moved his family to Michigan, where he worked at various hospitals in the Detroit metropolitan area for 6 years. Later he served in the United States Air force as a Captain, from 1979 to 1981, while stationed in New Mexico. From 1982 to 2003, Tony lived and practiced in Tallahasee, FL and Thomasville, GA, where he also served as the Medical Director of the pediatric unit at Rose Haven Southwestern State Hospital. Tony retired in 2003 after over 50 years as a medical doctor. After retirement, he pursued his passion of gardening, cooking and collecting cars. Tony met the love of his life, Sonia, at University of Santo Tomas and married on April 25, 1959. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 7 years ago. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Fausto M. Santos and Maria G. Santos; sister, Teresita S. Mapa (Ike); brothers, Rogelio G. Santos (Luz) and David G. Santos (Lita). Tony is also preceded in death by his grandson, Antonio Carland. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sonia Arevalo Santos, MD; three children, Arnel A. Santos, PE and his wife Nati; Agnes Arevalo Santos, CPA, and her fiance Mondu Dehdari; Antonio A. Santos Jr., MD and his wife Maria (Dolly), RN and their four children, Nikki, Gabby, Jenny, and Joseph. He was also survived by his sisters, Lolita S. Cortez (Jesus) and Flora S. Dimalanta (Tony); his brothers, Santos G. Santos, Nelson G. Santos (Sylvia), and Marciano G. Santos (Vangie). He was a devoted, doting husband who preferred to serve than be served. He was well loved by family, friends, and colleagues, all of whom came to know him as a truly kind and gentle man. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, April 16th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dade City. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 15th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Loyless Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations, in memory of Dr. Antonio Santos, Sr., to Gulfside Hospice or American Cancer Society.
