MONTANEZ, Pablo, 59, of Land O Lakes, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 24, 2016. Pablo was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico to Pedro Montanez and Mariana Munoz. He was the youngest of 8 siblings and grew up in Caguas, Puerto Rico. At a young age, he moved with his family to Detroit, MI, where he attended school. Pablo graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1978, working in the field of vocational rehabilitation after obtaining his BA. Later, he came to Tampa, Florida working for the State Office of Disability, and eventually joining the Social Security Administration (SSA). It was there that Pablo met the love of his life, Elizabeth [Liz], with whom he enjoyed 21 years together. Soon after, they moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where Pablo worked at the SSA office in Washington, DC, and later became a paralegal specialist at the SSA Office of Appeals in Falls Church, Virginia, while Elizabeth continued working at the SSA in Falls Church and Fairfax, Virginia. Their son, Liam Daniel, who is their pride and joy, was born in Alexandria, Virginia. Pablo’s love for his son knew no bounds, focusing in every aspect of Liam’s life, providing loving guidance, and tons of fun. Eventually, Pablo was promoted to Director of the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) in Tampa, Florida. After several years, a series of health events led him to take early retirement. Pablo had a passion for helping others, which influenced his career choices, moved by his love for God and humanity. He, above all, was dedicated to sharing the message of hope, salvation, and new life found in the Holy Bible’s teachings. He took in great delight in conducting Bible studies. Pablo was always ready for an adventure: SCUBA diving, bike racing, skiing, softball playing, jogging, and he left no rollercoaster unconquered! He was a hard-core Trekkie – fascinated by space exploration. Pablo enjoyed traveling with his family and explored many places, including the Caribbean, Hawaii, China, Mexico, as well as all around the United States. He loved music, playing guitar, piano and alto saxophone. At church, he sang solos and also was tenor in the choir. Pablo instilled the same sense of adventure, learning and music to his son, who plays tuba, marimba, saxophone, acoustic, electric guitar, and the thrill of rollercoasters. Although this extraordinary life was dimmed by declining health, Pablo lives on in the hearts of everyone who met him. Pablo is predeceased by 5 brothers; and his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; son, Liam; two sisters; nephews; extended family; and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the New Port Richey Seventh-Day Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pablo’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Family Organization (www.alzheimersfamily.org) or to the Gulfside Hospice of Pasco (www.GHPPC.org.) Thank you to the caring angels who provided loving care, not just to him, but to his wife and son as well.
