Richard Albert Long

Richard Albert Long, 74, of Hudson, FL went to be with the LORD on December 27, 2020. Rick was born in Gastonia, NC on June 11, 1946, and spent time as a child in Paris, France where his dad was stationed. Rick graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1965, where he played on the football team. Later, Rick played for the Miami Hurricanes before serving in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War era. For more than 48 years Rick has worked in the fire protection industry. During his son’s little league years; Rick coached his son’s team. He enjoyed many vacations sailing on cruise ships with his wife, Sharon, and friends. Rick is preceded in death by his son Timothy Scott Long, sister Carolyn Becker and her husband Spencer Becker, parents Carol Henry Long, Sr. and Edith Holton Long. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Heyliger Long, brother Carol Henry Long, Jr. (Kathleen), and nephews Richard Becker, Ted Becker, Christopher Long, and Gregory Long and niece Kathleen Eller. On Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 11:00 am, there will be a service to honor Rick at First Baptist Church of Land O’ Lakes in the sanctuary. The service will be conducted by Pastor David Peterson. Friends and family are invited. Mask and social distancing is encouraged. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park in St. Petersburg.
