James F. Price of Sun City Center Florida, age 91, passed away on June 21, 2023. Jim (as he was known), was born in Columbia Tennessee to Rosalie (Bengal) Price and Lee D. Price on April 13, 1932. He grew up on a farm in Loudon County Tennessee on the banks of the Tennessee River. There, with his older brother Charlie (now deceased) learned to farm, drive tracker, the love of the outdoor and family. Jim received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and later obtained a Maters and PhD from Michigan State University in E. Lansing Michigan. During his graduate work, he was drafted into the army and provided peace time services. At MSU, Jim met the love of his life, Norma Mary McLeish, from Ontario Canada. They were married just 6 months later in Burlington Ontario. The couple soon moved to Auburn Alabama where Jim (now Dr. Price) started is carrier as a college Professor. In 1960, Janice Margaret was born and then in 1962 Hunter James was born. Early in 1963, the family moved back to E. Lansing where Dr. Price worked as a Professor of Meat’s Science until he retired in 1999. In late 1999, Norma and Jim moved to Greensboro Georgia. After Norma died in 2016, Jim moved to Sun City Florida. Jim was blessed with four granddaughters Alexandria (Lexie) Haqq of Spring Hill Florida in 1995, Katherine (Katie) Haqq-Burroughs of Land O Lakes Florida in 1997, Erin Price of Randolph Wisconsin in 1997 and Shannon Price of Gurnee Illinois in 1999. He loved his girls. And in 2022, Jim welcomed his Grandson-in-law, Brandon Burroughs. He was also an uncle to Danny Price of Huntsville Alabama, Dr. David Price (deceased) of Chapel Hill NC, Dr. Craig Radford of Tyler Texas and Jennifer Havlin of Auston Texas. Jim’s favorite hobbies were wood working and furniture making. He was also quite talented at fixing things. He loved to travel, camp, boat and fish. He was faithful to God and to the church. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle. Those who knew him from Freedom Plaza say he was a kind and intelligent gentleman. Jim could not pass a dog without petting or talking with the animal. Oh, and he always carried treats for any dog he met! Currently services have not yet been scheduled and expected to be held at Freedom Plaza in Sun City Center Florida sometime in August 2023. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal shelters or Humane Societies.
