Robert Richard Henderson

Robert R. Henderson passed away peacefully Sunday, February 26, 2023 in Bradenton, Florida, with his family by his side. Bob was born on October 16, 1941 in Saratoga Springs, NY and was a life long resident of Syracuse, NY. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Carol Dixon Henderson, parents Robert A. Henderson and Doris Henderson, and a brother Bruce Henderson. Bob is survived by his wife Joan Henderson, daughter Deborah (Billy) Bernhard, son R. Todd Henderson, stepdaughters Tracy (Robert) Butkowski, Lisa (Patrick) Otts, and daughter-in-law Gina Henderson. Eight grandchildren: Hannah Bernhard, Jack Bernhard, R. Ian Henderson, Andrew Henderson, Riley Butkowski, Bailey Butkowski, Patrick Otts, and Lea Otts, and a sister Diane Scaia Bob was a Civil Engineering graduate of Clarkson University and was a member of the Sigma Delta Fraternity. As an employee and executive officer of Henderson-Johnson Co., Inc. for 60 years, he was a second-generation owner of his family’s construction company that has been in Syracuse since 1927. Dedicated to the construction industry, Bob served on the Board of Directors of the Syracuse Builders Exchange for over 35 years and President in 1993. He also served as Board member and past President of Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance. Further, Bob was affiliated with the American Lung Association and Kidney Foundation. Bob proudly served his country as an Air National Guardsman. Bob was an avid golfer and a dedicated fan of Syracuse University sports. He coached and refereed youth sports for many years, and proudly watched nearly every game or activity of his very active grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed many winters in Florida and summers in Syracuse NY. Bob will be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and sincere friend to many. He was truly loved by all who knew him. Services will be held March 25th at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave Syracuse, NY 13219 from 2:00 to 5:00. In lieu of flowers donations can be made as a tribute gift to the American Lung Association at action.lung.org
