Beth Marie Amley
June 24th, 1912 - May 8th, 2010
Amley, Beth Marie 97, of St. Petersburg, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010. She was born in Shamokin, PA on June 24, 1912. Her family moved to St. Petersburg in 1920 when she was 8 years old. She graduated from St. Petersburg High in 1930 and later returned to teach French. She attended college at UCLA and graduated from Florida State Teacher's College, now Florida State University. She also attended The French School of Middlebury College and spent one year studying French at the Sorbonne University in Paris. She and her family summered in Vermont where she met her husband. After they were married, they lived in Brandon, VT and later in Portland, ME during WWII where their two sons were born. The family moved to St. Petersburg in 1946 where her husband established his dental practice in the Rutland building. Beth was active in community service through the Junior Women's Club, Pinellas County Dental Auxiliary, Alpha Omega Study Club, Allendale Garden Club, The Stuart Society of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Bible Study Fellowship. She was also a member of Lakewood Country Club and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. She was a charter member of Faith Covenant Church and was always interested in Christian education. She loved to read and was always willing to help and mentor young people in their learning. One of her joys was preparing book reviews and reading lists for her study club each year. She will be missed by all those she helped, encouraged, and prayed for over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arnold O. Amley. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Edward A. Amley and his wife, Margaret, and Dr. Robert B. Amley and his wife, Roberta; grandchildren, Edward A. Amley Jr., Kirsten Orr, Hollis Amley, and Dr. Josie Pielop; great-grandchildren, Hayes Orr, Will Pielop, and Gus Pielop; and brother, Dr. Bernard Kehler. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11 AM at Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Suncoast Hospice, 3050 First Avenue South, St. Petersburg, FL 33712 or Bible Study Fellowship International, 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258.
