John Guerra
April 12th, 1926 - April 13th, 2013
Command Sergeant Major John Guerra (US Army Ret.), passed away April 13, 2013 in St Petersburg, FL. He went into the Coast Guard at 16 years of age which began his military career. A decorated war veteran, he served in WW II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was a great, war hero, defending the freedom of the United States of America that he loved and having no regard for his own life or safety, in order to save the men he was in charge of. He was a fair leader and his men came first. He was a man's man. John Guerra was a great man, a loving husband and father, whose family's needs always came before his needs and comfort. After his retirement from active duty, he worked as an ROTC instructor at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany NY. He moved to Florida after he retired. He is survived by his devoted wife Rufina Guerra, three daughters Charlottte Stieler, Flo Guerra and Diana Sutton of Florida; a brother Frank Guerra of Schenectady NY, his grandchildren Danny LoPilato of Boston Mass, Lucretia Hommel of Saratoga NY, Jennifer Franklyn, Namoi Stieler, Jennifer Stieler, Joshua Stieler, Matthew Pare of Florida; his great grandchildren, Morgan Boldish who followed her grandfather's footsteps and is in the Navy Reserves, Christian Boldish, Gabriella and Scotty Hommel of Saratoga NY, Isabella, Ian, Geovanni and Julis Vizcaino of St Petersburg, FL and soon to be born Jacob Stieler of Orlando Florida; and many nieces and nephews who have a great love and respect for him. A funeral service will be held at 11:30AM on Friday April 19, 2013 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater.
