Robert R. Meacomes
September 7th, 1929 - July 14th, 2013
MEACOMES, ROBERT R., "Captain Bob", 83, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2013, at The Masonic Home of Florida in St. Petersburg, where he lived for the past 2 1/2 years. He was born and raised in Bailey, N.C. After graduation from high school, he served on active duty for four years in the US Army, as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne, during the Korean War. Bob was a Mason for 62 years and served as a Past Monarch of the Grotto. He moved with his wife, Mary Ann, to St. Petersburg from Rocky Mount, N.C. in 1960. He and his family were active members of the First Baptist Church in downtown St. Petersburg. Upon retirement from Sears in 1985, he launched the career of his dreams as a boat Captain and owner of the "Reel Bare" fishing boat. He operated a charter fishing, scuba diving and salvaging business out of St. Petersburg for 15 years. An avid fisherman, he fulfilled his life's goal of being his own boss, and enjoying his days on the water. He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Campbell and her husband George, and Kimberly Black and her husband Bob. He is also survived by his brother Horace M. Meacomes and family of Bailey, N.C. A celebration of his life will be held at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home on July 19, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.
