Lewis, Robert Bruce, 91, of St. Petersburg, died Friday, November 29, 2013, at St. Anthony's Hospital. Born in Whiteville, North Carolina, he came here in 1964 from Charleston, WV, where he worked for the Charleston Gazette. Prior to the Gazette, he worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Winston-Salem Journal. He graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with his Bachelor's degree in Journalism. He was a US Army veteran having served in the infantry in World War II. After moving to St. Petersburg, he worked as a journalist for the St. Petersburg Times (now Tampa Bay Times) from 1964-1984. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a devoted family man and after retiring enjoyed traveling with his wife, Lilly. He and his wife would swim daily at Pass-A-Grille beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce H. and Cora Lou Lewis; and his sister, Caroline Williams. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lilly Lee Lewis; his son, Stanley (Beate) Lewis of Palm Harbor, FL; his daughter, Dianne (Brian) Hull of Novato, CA; his daughter, Susan (Steve) Torgersen of La Crosse, FL; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
