Orton "Ken" Kinney Smith
November 10th, 1928 - January 21st, 2014
Orton "Ken Kinney Smith,85, passed away on January 21,2014. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sonia M Schofield Smith. He was born in Fostoria, OH on November 10, 1928 to Abraham L and Georgia Burman Smith who are deceased. He is survived by three children; Maria L. Smith of Seattle, WA; Owen "Kirk" Smith and Lori P. Smith both of St Petersburg, FL. He is preceded in death by one son, Alan L. Smith who passed away April 26, 1990. Grand and great grandchildren: Jessica Smith (Steve) Thompson; Joseph A (Liz) smith and their son, Ethan of Lima, OH; Sara M Wallace of St Petersburg, FL; Alan L. Smith of Findley, OH and his sister, Katheryn "Kat" Kingery and her children, Alexis, Whitney, Hayden Ludwig and her brother, Mike Kingery with his children; Miguel, Jacob, and Jordan Kingery, all of Findlay, OH. Also surviving is his sister, Gwendolyn Wilson of Findlay, OH and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Smith, a graduate of Findlay HS, was a master plumber/pipefitter in OH before retiring. His family said he could fix anything. He enjoyed camping and outdoor skills as a Boy Scout leader for 15 years in OH. Moving to Florida in 1986, he was a valued volunteer American Red Cross driver for over 20 years. Ken became a certified SCUBA diver in 1979, diving until 2002, and became active in the state organization FSDA, (Florida Skin Diver Association). He was the FSDA Treasurer from 1993-2012. His dive clubs were Lima Scubanauts, SCUPA and the Suncoast Reef Rowdies. He and his wife Sonia enjoyed traveling all over the world. Photography and genealogy were his other hobbies. Family and Friends will Celebrate life in his memory at 2:00PM on Jan 26, 2014 at their home in St Petersburg,Florida. A memorial will be also be held in Ohio in the spring of 2014. In Lieu of flowers the family ask to please make donations to the American Red Cross.
