Donald C. Wright, 96, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Westminster Suncoast in St. Petersburg, FL. Born,1918 in Summit, New Jersey, Don moved to St. Petersburg with his family in 1933. He graduated from Saint Petersburg High School then went on to the University of Florida where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a Flight Engineer for Pan American Airlines during WWII he flew 125 missions for the Army Air Corp from Brazil to Africa carrying cargo and bringing wounded soldiers home. In 1946 he joined the family business and became President of Universal Fountain Brush Company, founded by his Grandfather, Wilfred Wright in 1904. He retired in 1982. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Wright, daughter, Susan W. Newsom, son Donald C. Wright Jr. and wife Nancy J. Wright, Granddaughter Karen C. Cosgrove, Great Grandson Christopher J. Cosgrove and Nephews Ed Turville and Larry Turville, sons of his late sister Janet Turville. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations to Suncoast Hospice Foundation - 5771 Roosevelt Blvd. Clearwater, FL. 33760; phone: 727-586-4432.
