Jones, Charles C. "Charlie" 89, of St. Petersburg, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at Westminster Suncoast. Born in Pontiac, MI, he came to Florida in 1975 and later to St. Petersburg in 1985. He graduated from Pontiac High School in 1939. He served in the United States Army Air Force as a Radar Navigator during WWII. After his military duty he continued his education and graduated from Alma College in MI. He did graduate studies in social work at Perdue University in IN and Wayne State University in MI. He married Ann Miller in 1950 and began his family with two children, Michael and Melissa. He operated a North American Van Line Agency for 20 years in Louisville, KY. He retired to Englewood, FL in 1975 and relocated to St. Petersburg in 1985. He was ordained as an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and was a member of Maximo Presbyterian Church. He played trombone in many community bands and orchestras in Louisville, Sarasota, Tampa and St. Petersburg. He did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Operation Attack, NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness), Advocacy Council for Mental Health and served as a Guardian Advocate for persons who were placed under the Baker Act. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Bertha H. Jones; son, Michael Charles Jones, Aspen, CO; daughter, Melissa Ann Jones, Seattle, WA; step children, Mary Beth Jackson, Media, PA and Clifford A. McKay III, Victor, NY; brother, Robert F. Jones, Winder, GA; 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Maximo Presbyterian Church, 3200 58th Ave. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33712. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the St. Petersburg Free Clinic or to Maximo Presbyterian Church. Jones, Charles C. "Charlie"
